The Red for Ed movement is strong in the nation and strong in California. With UTLA and OEA poised to strike in mid January, we are looking for our members to mobilize and join in solidarity actions. January 12 at 12 will be a Rally to Fund Education Now, across from Oakland City Hall.

We will be conducting our Site-level admin survey in January. This is our opportunity as an association to celebrate the great things our administrators do for our sites and identify areas for growth and improvement. This data is collected and shared with the principals and board members.

With a new school board now seated I encourage everyone to try and attend their assigned board meetings. School board meetings will now begin at 6:00pm for open session. January 10th will be the first board meeting of the new year. Please join us at the board meetings to air your concerns and needs for our district, be it curriculum, leadership or site-level concerns. Inform our board so that they know how to direct our district.

Many CTA Conferences are accessible in the new year. Visit the CTA website to learn about these exciting conferences. I encourage all of our new members and those teachers who have taught less than 5 years to explore the New Educator Weekend in March! There are grants and scholarships available for attendance which helps OGEA send more members.
