The Good News

Do you ever turn on the news at the moment and wonder what’s happened to the world? I often wonder if it has always been this way or if we just think it’s getting worse because we live in the ‘now’.

Maybe social media has contributed to our view of the world and our judgement of others. When I look at the way people talk about issues on the internet, I see a world full of false, anonymous bravery, at the expense of authenticity. Sometimes if feels like it would be just easier walk away from it all.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35 (NIV)

Was Christ born to spread the news that we all just need to get along and make things work?

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord”. Luke 2:9-11 (NIV)

We did/do not need a Saviour to be born, if our main need is to learn some useful suggestions for coexistence. The birth of Christ was, and still should be, “good news that will cause great joy”. We all know that Christmas is a time of year that is sometimes without roots in the birth of Jesus. But whatever your reasons are for celebrating this Christmas, pay attention to the joy and to the love and be thankful.

Have a safe and blessed Christmas.
