STEAM Networking Breakfast
Kilvington’s First STEAM Networking Breakfast – Collaboration for Sustainability
With guest speaker and Kilvington alumni, Briony Rogers (Class of 1999)
The sustainability challenges of our day are complex and pervasive. Climate change, population growth, land use changes, resource constraints, ageing infrastructure, and biodiversity loss are all threatening the health and wellbeing of people and planet.
Solving these challenges requires innovation - both new technological solutions and new social solutions that will drive the policies and practices needed for sustainable and resilient futures.
And no individual perspective can enable system changes alone. Collaboration across disciplinary, organisational, and sectoral boundaries is critical, as is the inclusion of different types of knowledge, including Indigenous wisdom and the lived experiences of communities.
Our passionate guest speaker is former student Associate Professor Briony Rogers. Briony is a Director of MSDI Water, leading a team of experts in water, sustainability, governance and system change, and the CEO of Fire to Flourish, focused on testing and scaling innovative approaches to community-led disaster resilience and climate change adaptation.
Graduating from Kilvington in 1999, Briony has worked across Australia and internationally driving the transformational shifts needed for our long-term sustainability and resilience.
Briony will explore the ideas above in her presentation, sharing insights from her research on sustainable water management and community disaster resilience and reflecting on the role of STEM professionals in collaborating to drive sustainability transitions.
