Sarah McSwiney appointed Chair, Kilvington Grammar Board

Kilvington Grammar is delighted to announce the appointment of Sarah McSwiney as Chair of the Kilvington Board. She has served on the Board since 2017.

Sarah is a former student (peer year 1999) of the School attending from Prep to Year 12 and was, until recently, President of the Kilvington Alumni Committee.

Sarah’s passion for science and technology has seen her forge a remarkable career since graduating with honours from RMIT with a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering. Her 17-year career with Boeing includes her current role as Senior Manager of Engineering Strategy and Operations for Boeing Defence Australia. Prior to this she spearheaded Boeing Research and Technology Australia’s Enterprise Resin Infusion Roadmap as Composites Technology Manager.

She also previously led the liaison engineering team across all programs at Boeing Aerostructures Australia, and prior to that she worked as a design engineer and a liaison engineer both in Melbourne and Seattle (USA).

Her passion for gender equality and encouraging more young women into STEM careers was first ignited by the robotics program when she was a primary school student at Kilvington.

“I remember being so fascinated and curious about the robots and their possibilities to solve problems. Importantly, the teacher at the time really urged me to explore my interest further. Without that encouragement, I’m not sure I would be where I am today. That is why it is so important that we create the pathways and opportunities for girls and young women to consider careers in the STEM sector.”

Sarah’s vision as Chair of the Kilvington Board is to continue to strengthen the school whilst maintaining its niche of being small enough to care and big enough to excel. “I am very excited about the completion of the new STEAM Centre and all the possibilities that will open up for Kilvington students.”

As a committed advocate for higher education and the aerospace industry, Sarah holds a number of Board positions including Chair of industry body Aviation/Aerospace Australia, is on the industry advisory board for Aerospace Engineering at Monash University, and Chairs the Sir Lawrence Wackett Defence and Aerospace Centre industry advisory board at RMIT University.
