JO YATES

Here’s Jo Yates as an athletic nine year old.

 When this photograph was taken Jo had just won the Under 10 Discus Victorian Championship. Jo competed for Oakleigh Little Athletics Club and the State Championships were held at Olympic Park. 

At this point in time Jo had only been learning discus for a year. She was coached by her dad and continued until she was about 16, competing in and winning more State Championships along the way.

In addition to discus, Jo also enjoyed relays, shotput and the 400 metres. Aside from athletics, as a child she also loved to play basketball. In fact, she still enjoys basketball and plays in the local Healesville competition and finds it a nice way to keep fit and interact with other people.

With our athletic sports coming up, perhaps Jo will loosen up her arm, dust off her discus and show us all how it’s done!
