Principal's Notes

Please enjoy this edition of ‘Healesville High Connections’. We commenced producing this variation on the older style fortnightly school newsletter during remote learning last year. Our hope then was that the newer format publication would play a role in giving you a feeling of connection to the school during COVID restrictions. Feedback indicates that we achieved some level of success with a lighter, more entertaining and more ‘connected’ approach and we plan to continue with the new format- even though we dearly hope we will not be required to return to further remote learning situations!

COVID times have been difficult for everyone and Healesville High School has coped amazingly well. Flexibility, resilience, innovation, goodwill and compassion have been consistently demonstrated across all levels of our school community. During the most recent short lockdown those same attributes have enabled the students and staff of our school, supported by parents, to once again not only cope but thrive.

Thank you to everyone for the remarkable work being completed, for your support and your understanding.  I continue to be amazed by the innovative approaches of staff members, students and parents and by hearing of and seeing the connection between students and their teachers.

In this edition I hope you will enjoy, as I did, reading about the arrival of Ms Jackson’s first child and also enjoy meeting our new staff members. Congratulations to the 2021 school leaders who are introduced to you in this week’s publication. Student leadership is in very capable hands this year if the energy and the innovation of this group is any indication.

The answers given by students to the five questions posed to them are always enlightening and the reports on outdoor education and English excursions and the Year 12 team building day give an indication of the broader school experiences being offered to students.

Congratulations also to the student ‘super stars’ recognised in this edition- Joseph, Audrey, Brianna and Hene. These students, along with many others, have made a wonderfully positive start to 2021.

Enjoy this edition of ‘Connections’ and stay safe.

Kind regards

Allan Rennick
