Faith

This week the Church celebrates the feast day of St. Joseph, the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster-father of Jesus. St. Joseph was an ordinary manual labourer although descended from the royal house of David. He faithfully fulfilled his role of protecting and guarding God's greatest treasures upon earth, Jesus and Mary.

Last year, Pope Francis recalled the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Church. To mark the occasion, the Holy Father proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph” from 8 December 2020, to 8 December 2021.

Pope Francis describes Saint Joseph as a beloved father, a tender and loving father, an obedient father, an accepting father; a father who is creatively courageous, a working father, a father in the shadows.

Prayer

St. Joseph, watch over me and care for me just as you cared for the child Jesus; and by your help, may I come to know your Son, and so grow in strength and wisdom and the favour of God.

Amen.
