What's happening in the classrooms

The Junior School has been very busy these past few weeks, starting each day with PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) and Aural language. The students have been developing their coordination by working on their gross motor and fine motor skills while building and developing their listening and teamwork skills.

In Literacy, the Juniors have been focusing on phonics, reading and writing. In reading the students have been making connections and summarising short stories. While in writing the Juniors have concluded their unit on recounts and have begun looking at how to write a short narrative basing their ideas around fairy tales.

In Maths we have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects. This includes the names and how many sides and corners these shapes and objects have. We have also been using our shape knowledge sequence and make patterns.

We have been continuing our Inquiry unit on Community and Relationships focusing on our big question “How does helping others make a healthy, happy community?”. We were lucky to have had 2 guest speakers into the junior school to speak about their role in the community. Our first guest was Mr Twomey and our second guest speaker was our School Nurse, Selina. Both Mr Twomey and Selina spoke with the Juniors about their role in schools and in the community. The students had prepared questions to ask our speakers during their writing and inquiry lessons.

In Religious Education, the students have continued investigating “How do I belong to the family of God?” The students have been learning about the Baptism of Jesus and the symbols used during the Baptism. The students have all also made Lenten promises during this time of preparation and reflection before Easter.

We look forward to continuing our learning journey together.
