NEW - Grade 3/4 Biological Sciences

This term the Grade 3/4 students have been studying Biological Sciences with a focus on Animal Adaptations and Life Cycles. Mrs Farran very kindly organised some eggs and lent us her incubator so that we could hatch some chickens. Over the last month, we have had to carefully turn the eggs and add water to help them grow. Last week, 8 baby chickens hatched. We got to watch them break out of their shells and when they were dry, they moved into the box under the heat lamp with their food and water. They will stay here for the next few weeks until they grow a bit bigger. They are starting to find their voices and are so soft to touch. Thank-you to Mrs Farran for organising this for us and for the adults that came in on the weekends to make sure that everything was going well.

NEW - Grade 1/2 Melbourne Zoo Excursion

Grade 1/2 students had a fantastic time at the Melbourne Zoo excursion. The excursion linked in with our current Inquiry topic of “Why do I live here?”. Children explored habitats, life cycles, diets, and many other things about animals. They participated in a workshop called “Wild Labs” and played in a developmental play area with many hands-on toys and tools. Children will use these new wonderings and discoveries in many follow-on lessons and activities.

It was a fantastic day and a big congratulations to all the students for their excellent behaviour and the way they followed the school PBIS.

NEW - National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday, May 24th, students were encouraged to wear ‘sloth’ clothes for the day. PJs, Oodies, Onesies, and comfy lounging clothes were all the go! This was in celebration of the book The Speedy Sloth, that was chosen by ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) as the book for this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime. Every year, a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously around the country. Sacred Heart students were part of over 2 million students reading the book on Wednesday. We were lucky enough to have it read to us by Mrs Basile, who is a master at reading stories!

Festival of the Sacred

This term our grade 5/6 students are preparing for the Festival of the Sacred. Students will participate in four workshops at school with tutors from ASPA Ed, Australian School of Performing Arts and rehearse during Music sessions.

The Festival Day has been scheduled for Tuesday 13th June. Families are invited to attend the concert at 1pm at the Kyabram Sports and Entertainment Centre. This is a free event however tickets need to be booked online (see poster for booking link).

Volunteers

At Sacred Heart we value the support of volunteers. Over your child/ren’s journey through Primary School there are many opportunities to volunteer and support your child and the school. Please visit the volunteer page on the school website for further information.
