Senior Boys Soccer

On Tuesday 14 May, the Senior Boys Soccer Team arrived at Sweeney Reserve to compete with other schools in Division Inter-School Soccer.

The hard work in training and preparation definitely paid off on the day as the boys determinedly won all three games against Pakenham, Koo Wee Rup and Kambrya, scoring a total of 20 goals and conceding 0 to allow them to proceed to Regionals.

The boys should be proud of their great efforts as a collective team and for their fair play and sportsmanship with the opposing teams. A huge thank you to Mr LaBrooy who encouraged and guided the boys to their victory with his coaching. Also, a massive shout-out to the Nossal Alumni (Ronith Koshy, Rohan Naidu & Ashraf Ally) who came down to give coaching and support for the boys along the way.

Tennis = Tremendous at Nossal

On Monday 20 May our Senior Tennis teams played in the state championships at Boroondara. This was only the third time in our ten year school history that we have had a team ‘make state’.

We performed exceptionally well, with both teams displaying a skill level and mental application that took them all the way to the final.

Unfortunately Maribyrnong Sports Academy were too strong in the Final but all twelve players can be immensely proud of their efforts. They can lay claim to being one of the best sports teams we have ever fielded at Nossal and I know  the journey they have gone on together through each of the three competitions, Division, Region and State, will be fondly remembered for years to come.

Results were as follows:

Senior Boys

Def Galen College Wangaratta

Def Leongatha SC

Def Trinity College Colac

Semi Final Def Box Hill SS

Final Def by Maribyrnong

Senior Girls

Def Marian College Myrtleford

Def Nagle College Bairnsdale

Semi Final Def SEDA Albert Park

Final Def by Maribyrnong

Volleyball Serves.. hard and soft

After winning the Volleyball Division Tournament, the Intermediate Girls’ Volleyball team were set to play Regionals on the 7 May. We had arrived at school bright and early to head to Dandenong Stadium, excited but nervous for the day ahead of us. With few trainings since the Division tournament, we walked into Dandenong Stadium with very low expectations.

The first game of the day was against McKinnon Secondary College. To be quite frank, the game wasn’t great, however, it was the first game of the day, and the girls were all very tense and anxious. Especially after  witnessing their spiking practice beforehand.

The second game of the day was against Keysborough College. After a few pep talks between the team the coach, the girls had come into the next game refreshed and ready to win. The first set was lost by only a few points, with Nossal in the lead for about half the time, however, the set was lost. The second set was looking like a win for Nossal, with 3 points above Keysborough for majority of the set. However, the strong serves of one of the opposition team members was what lost us the set.

The third and final game of the day, against Albert Park Secondary College was well fought. Although the team had not lost any games that day and was well set to head into the finals, the girls had played incredibly well, and the energy was great the whole time. We managed to keep up with Albert Park, only losing by around 2-3 points.

Overall, the girls had shown a lot of improvement throughout the day and had tried their best against the tough competition. The day ended with soft serve ice-creams that Ms Coffa had generously bought for the girls as well as the coaches, Lily and Josh, for their hard work.
