From the Principal

It is an exciting time for the College as we build a new Strategic Plan. A Strategic Plan sets the new horizon and tells us where we are headed. Jill Morgan is working with all facets of the College community to get a picture of what we love about St Mary’s and what we aspire to be. Please be part of this exciting process. You can come to the parent consultation workshop on Tuesday 25 May 2021 at 5.30pm - 6.30pm or if you are unable to attend, make sure you take part in the online survey here which closes Monday 17 May 2021. Both are great opportunities to have your say. We are genuine about parent participation.

It is clearly autumn, but feeling a bit more like winter! The Church’s year of celebrations is aligned to the Northern Hemisphere calendar, with Easter, the season of hope, aligning with spring. I think in Tassie we have to be creators of hope in the everyday circumstances of autumn and winter. Challenging yourself to get out and enjoy the outdoors, looking for ways to use light in the dark, like a candle, or fairy lights, visiting the bush to look for the beautiful fungi – really being deliberate about enjoying what autumn is in our part of the world. As we transition into winter in Tassie, we need to be conscious of Vitamin D. The state government tells us people with fair skin need to spend about 20-90 minutes in the sun mid-morning or mid-afternoon, and people with darker skin should spend at least 1.5 to 3 hours in the sun around midday to get enough Vitamin D.

Autumn Months

O God of Creation, you have blessed us with the changing of the seasons.

As we welcome the autumn months, may the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest.

May the brilliant colours of the leaves remind us of the wonder of your creation.

May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life.

May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and bounty we are to share with others.

May the dying of summer's spirit remind us of your great promise that death is temporary and life is eternal.

We praise you for your goodness forever and ever.

Amen
