From the Counsellors

Welcome to our new counsellor

Introducing Taylor Fletcher, our new counsellor with a Junior School focus.

Taylor is a social worker and has been working for child safety services and non-government agencies since finishing her Bachelor degree.

Taylor has specialised in long term case management of young people in out of-home care, supporting children, families and foster carers.

She has come to St Mary’s College after having her first child and as a new mum is aware of the importance of the partnership parents and schools hold in supporting young people at school.

Taylor is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for a conversation regarding any concerns you may have about your child in Kinder-Year 6.

Children Do Well When They Can

When we refer to children we are actually talking about all young people from birth to 18 years.

Below is a short and well-written article on why it’s important to understand children want to do well and they do not always choose to be bad or naughty.  Children can only do as well as the social-emotional capacity that they currently have.  When a child doesn’t comply with what we ask, we need to understand that they are probably not trying to make a deliberate choice to misbehave, but rather adapting to an immature social-emotional system that is still developing.  This can be the experience for any young person at any age up until 18 years old and is dependent on their life experiences.
