Diocesan Touch Football

On Thursday the 2nd of March three O’Connor Catholic College Touch Football teams traveled via coach with Mr Honeysett, Mr Russell, Miss Clydsdale and their coaches Sophie Carson and Brooke Newberry to Inverell for the Annual Diocesean Touch Football Carnival. During the day rounds were contested against other Secondary Catholic Schools from our Diocese including: Holy Trinity Inverell, St Philomena's School Moree, St Mary’s College Gunnedah and McCarthy Catholic College Tamworth. In warm conditions, students put their skills on show over 4 round games aiming to be named in the “Possibles” and “Probables” game at the end of the day. From this final match the Armidale Diocese Secondary Sport Council selected a final U/15 Boys and U/15 Girls team to represent the Diocese at the NSWCCC Touch Football Championships. After displaying great skill sets during the day Hannah Kahn, Hannah Friedman and Paige Patterson were named in the “Possibles” and “Probables” for the girls. Gabe Harris, James Lawry and Charlie Foster were named for the boys. In the final selection Hannah Friedman and Paige Patterson were named in the Armidale Diocese Girls Team and Charlie Foster was named for the boys. Congratulations to all players and best of luck to those selected who will travel to the NSWCCC Championships in Wagga Wagga on Monday the 3rd and Tuesday the 4th of April.

Soccer & Rugby League Trials

Yesterday in a very hot Lismore, 10 O’Connor students participated in soccer and rugby league trials with Lismore Diocese.Involved in the round ball game were; Lily Moore, Jorja Wilson, Charlotte Killen, Indiana Ramage, Fraser McQueen, Alec Campbell and Chitipat Poomipak. While out at Woodlawn, James Lawry, Charlie Foster and Lachie Clark braved the steamy conditions in the league trials.All students tried their hardest, displaying excellent sportsmanship throughout the tough conditions.Jorja, Indiana and Fraser were selected to represent Lismore Diocese U18’s, at the NSWCCC Football Championships, to be held at Glenwood, in May.James Lawry did extremely well to be selected for the Lismore U15’s team, that will contest the Northern Country CCC Rugby League Trials, in South West Rocks, on March 29.Well done to all and best of luck to those selected to represent at the next level.

Rep Basketball Weekend 

Congratulations to John Harris, Gabe Harris, Hunter Booth, Forrest Warburton and Jarius Webster, all members of the Under 18 Lions team who went undefeated last weekend at the first round of the Northern Eastern Junior League basketball competition. Each made valuable contributions to the team and played with dignity and respect , particularly when they were tired and sore. 

 

Diocesan Swimming Carnival

A great day was had by all at the Diocesan Swimming Carnival in Gunnedah this week. Have a look through the photos from the day and stay tuned for the results of the carnival early next week.

 

Indoor Hockey

Congratulations to O'Connor past students Nathan Czinner, Ben Hanlan and Jake McCann who have been selected in the 2023 Australian men's indoor hockey squad. Good luck in your tournaments.
