Leader of Pedagogy

Ms Lauren Donnelly

As we progress through the middle of Term 1, it provides us with opportunities to refine our understanding about learning practices and how to engage students from highly engaged and refreshed from holiday, through to the end of the term as fatigue sets in.

One of the most powerful tools that a teacher can utilize in any lesson, is establishing a strong relationship with students that is focused on developing trust in order to achieve success in learning. Strong relationships are founded on an understanding of the why

  • Why are we learning this content?
  • Why is it important to me?
  • Why do you value it as part of the learning content?

But also on understanding who

Who are our learners at O’Connor Catholic College?

Through analysis of ongoing assessment data, teachers are able to identify their students academic strengths but it is also in understanding who they are as individuals that establishes the whole person. This is known as putting faces on the data. By working with our Leaders of Learning Wellbeing, PAC teachers and subject specific educators, we are able to understand the best ways that students learn and how to build those stronger relationships. It is only through doing this, that we are able to foster positive relationships in the classroom and allow for engaged learning to take place.
