St James Swimming Team 2021

The St James students selected to the team will be competing at the Holt District Swimming Carnival which to be held on Friday 19th February at Oakleigh Recreation Centre, all being well. If the lockdown is continued and schools remain closed the competition will be cancelled. This information will be communicated via Operoo as soon as we know. Students who have been chosen to represent the team have been notified via Operoo. I do thank all those who came  to the trials, unfortunately we could not take everyone.

Holt District Tennis, 2021

The Holt District tennis competition was  held last Friday the 12th February;  3 students represented St James at this event.  Well done to Lucy S and Lachie W who will progress through to the Beachside Division in March.  A special mention to James H who played a fantastic two matches and Millie W who unfortunately could not play on the day. Also thank-you to the St James Tennis Club for allowing us to change the venue and utilise their courts.

Holt District Sport Information

Please read below information on our sports district and how it operates. It can be hard to understand how it all works so I thought I would include this part of my newsletter item again from last week.

We are part of a district called Holt. This district is made up of 9 schools in our area who have a similar number of students. In this district we compete in tennis, swimming, soccer, netball, football, athletics, cross-country, basketball and generally cricket as well as term 2 weekly sport. The main sports are governed by School Sport Victoria(SSV). If you do well at our district level, i.e. win team events or come first or second in individual events, you are asked to then go on to represent the Holt district at the Beachside division level. At this level you will be competing against representatives from other districts. If you are successful at Beachside competitions, winning individual or team events you will go through to Regionals and then if successful, States.

Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country are all run in age groups. 9/10, 11, 12/13. Your age is taken from the 31st December of the year of competition. For the team events we usually only offer places to the year 5 and 6 students. Except for basketball and cricket, which we offer to year 3,4,5 and 6 students.

SSV Nominations

School Sport Victoria each year holds trials for students who are highly skilled competitors in their chosen sport to trial to be a part of Team Vic. This is a highly prestigious and sort after honour by many athletes. If you feel that your son/daughter may be eligible to trial for a Team Vic sport please talk with your child’s coach. Please use the following link to assist you with further information in regards to eligibility, nomination process and dates of trials. https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/team-vic

Looking forward to hopefully a full year of sport at St James.
