What we’ve been up to at OSHC!
We have had so much fun over the past two weeks engaging with our new after school clubs! Within these clubs are weekly goals have included building relationships to work productively with peers and educators. Check out some of the awesome things we’ve been up to below!
To celebrate the start of the AFLW season, the children have loved building their football skills including kicking and handballing in some fun football drills.
The children also really enjoyed building their soccer skills as they practiced kicking and stopping the ball. Our focus over the next few weeks in sports club is sportsmanship.
Super Science Stars Club
The children have had a blast in science club, learning about acid-alkaline reactions as they made some cool volcanoes!
The children also loved making some super stretchy slime and learning about non-Newtonian fluids
(things that act like solids and liquids)!
The children have really enjoyed exploring the new Tilley gardens. They have loved engaging in self-directed play as they water and care for the gardens and engage with nature. In the future, we will use some of the produce from these gardens in our cooking experiences…watch this space!
In building club, the children have been loving our mystery bag challenges! Given a few ‘mystery’ items, the need to design and build a structure that fits the brief outlined in their challenge. So far we’ve made robots and film cameras! It has been fantastic to see the children work cooperatively with their peers.
“I liked how we could turn the stuff that we had into amazing things”- Vivienne, Grade 2
During cooking club, we have been providing one of our senior children, Siena, with a leadership role. Siena has done an amazing job of delegating tasks, problem solving and ensuring the younger children are involved. Recently, we have made some delicious brownies!
“I enjoyed the responsibility and would like to do it again”- Siena, Grade 5
