Busy Times For Year 12 English Students

Our Year 12 Mainstream English students are certainly in the midst of preparation for their exams at the moment with several key events taking place.

  1. The English Trial Exam is scheduled to take place on Friday September 16 from 9:00am to 12:15pm (with students expected to be at school by 8.30 so that dictionaries can be checked etc).  This exam will be marked by a trained assessor and will provide our students with invaluable exam experience as well as insightful feedback.
  2. Our Final SAC (The Imaginative Landscape) will take place on Wednesday September 14 2-4 p.m.
  3. Revision Lecture delivered by Assistant Chief Assessor, Ms Karen Graham on Wednesday September 7, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
  4. On Monday August 29, the students attended an invaluable day in the city.  We visited the Melbourne Writers’ Festival where the students participated in a question and answer session with author of Stasiland, Anna Funder.  They also worked in study groups to locate and discuss a range of art pieces and take photographs of the Melbourne landscape (as part of our study of context), and they took part in a workshop on the Imaginative Landscape.  The students behaved impeccably throughout the day and many reported its value in relation to their studies.

Feedback from the students:

  • “I enjoyed discussing art with my peers and being exposed to different interpretations of the Imaginative Landscape”
  • “It was great to hear personal insights from the author herself”
  • “I would have loved even more time with Anna Funder”
  • “I found it really interesting to hear about what happened to many of the individuals from Funder’s book and her perspective on the ex-Stasi she interviewed.”
  • “The tour of the gallery was exciting and interesting….I haven’t been there before”
