Primary Co-Curricular

Our athletes take to the field at the North Adelaide SAPSASA Event this week

Primary Co-Curricular Report

Last weekend saw the conclusion of the soccer season. It was the much anticipated ‘mini intercol’ with matches played against CBC across all soccer divisions.

The Primary A team won a spirited battle 3-2. The boys hung in the game very well and despite some controversial calls, chipped away to come out eventual winners. I have received many comments about this group and the way in which they conducted themselves in some testing situations. Mrs La Forgia and Mr Niedzwiecki both commented on the boys’ conduct and development throughout the season. Joseph Garreffa was awarded the Intercol Medal as best afield for Blackfriars.

The Primary B team lost 0-3 to CBC, but with a bit of luck the result could have been different with a shot hitting the bar and some near misses. The defence held strong and battled valiantly with Jono Hoang leading the way to claim the Intercol Medal as best afield. Mr Niedzwiecki was especially impressed with the boys and their effort right across the season.

The Year 3/4/5 teams also battled CBC to split the matches 1-all. The Blue team lost 1-3 and the Black team won 6-3. Well done to all students for their efforts and enthusiasm across the season. This bunch of boys is soccer-mad and loved playing each week.

Thank you

I would like thank the coaches and staff on behalf of all players and parents. The coaches did a wonderful job this season and were very reliable and professional. The staff in charge of the teams also did a wonderful job and were superb in managing their teams. A very special thank you to the coaches:

Andy Nguyen: Primary A Soccer

Tom Dibbens, Jozef Kogoj, Decclan Bolzon and Lam Nguyen: Year 3/4/5 Soccer

Thank you also to:

Mrs La Forgia, Mr Niedzwiecki, Miss Schenk, Mrs West, Mr Ali, Mrs Holland, Miss Schwidder and Mrs Petruzzella for their input and time in the soccer program.

Thanks also to Mr Ernie Luongo for his input and general coordination of the Soccer Program.

Other Co-Curricular

The basketball teams and lacrosse teams still have a number of fixtures to complete. Mr Vo’s 6/7 team narrowly defeated St Andrew's last week whilst the Year 4/5s lost to a strong Saints line-up. The lacrosse team had a BYE but return to action this Saturday against ETP.

SAPSASA Athletics

On Tuesday 28 August, a team of 19 athletes ventured to SANTOS Stadium for the North Adelaide SAPSASA Athletics event. This event is a selection event for the North Adelaide District team which participates in the State-wide Carnival in Week 10.

A number of students may gain selection in the North Adelaide team as they placed in various events, but results have not been released as yet.

Well done to all participants for their effort and contribution to the athletics team. Special mention to the Year 7 boys, many of whom have competed in numerous athletics carnivals over their Primary journey.

Thank you to Mrs West and Mrs Nolan for assisting on the day and to the parents that came and watched throughout the day.

A more detailed report will be compiled when I have the results.
