Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol

The Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol concluded winter co-curricular sports for another year. During this week-long event, students participated in a variety of sports and intellectual activities. 

 

The Senior Chess team were defeated by CBC 3 – 2. Well done to all team members – Daanyaal Shakoordeen, Kristian Tsimouris, Keyshon Dalton, Nathan Sewart and Alan Banh. CBC earned an early 1 – 0 lead for the Intercol Championship.

 

The Senior Debating team were the affirmative team on the topic ‘That we should not trade with countries who execute their citizens'. It was a close and tense debate with both sides arguing well thought out points and ideas. The team was composed and talked with confidence and passion. Unfortunately, Blackfriars were defeated 3 – 0. Well done to Sebastian Deluca, Jarod Eddy and Yonatan Halawa. Thankyou to TJ Afungia for being the chairperson during the debate. CBC now lead the Intercol Championship 2 – 0.

 

The Middle Debating team were the affirmative team on the topic 'That athletes should be forced to undertake tertiary study'. The team put forward strong arguments but unfortunately were defeated 3 – 0. Well done to Harry Boyd-Turner, Nathan Sewart and Keyshon Dalton. Thankyou to William Catley for being the chairperson during the debate.

 

The Senior A Table Tennis team were defeated 12 – 8. An excellent effort and display of sportsmanship from all team members – Isaiah Lee, Hieu Nguyen, An Nguyen, Jason Vien, Phi Ai Trinh, Phi An Trinh, Bao Nguyen and Duy Tran. CBC lead the Intercol Championship 3 – 0.

 

The First XI Soccer team defeated CBC 4 – 2. Blackfriars were down 2 – 0 during the first half but showed outstanding skill and teamwork to earn the win. Goal scorers were Jai King-Byrne 2, Darcy Dominic 1 and Jordan Mugford 1. Congratulations to Jai King-Byrne who was awarded the Intercol Medal. CBC lead the Intercol Championship 3 – 1.

 

The Senior A Basketball team were narrowly defeated by CBC 47 – 44. The team demonstrated excellent determination, teamwork and persistence. Congratulations to Kane Flanagan who was awarded the Intercol Medal. CBC lead the Intercol Championship 4 – 1.

Open Knockout Badminton Final

On Friday 24 August, Blackfriars competed in the finals of the Open Knockout Badminton Competition. Blackfriars played teams from Glenunga International High School, St Peter’s College and Parafield Gardens High School. Blackfriars finished third. They were defeated by Glenunga, narrowly defeated on points by St Peter’s and convincingly beat Parafield Gardens. Congratulations to coach Mrs Shelagh Vonderwall and team members Tony Nguyen, Phi An Trinh, Steve Nguyen, Vincent Yang and Cornas Ling.
