VCAL Project
ANZAC Seat
At the start of the year Tom Harrington and Jake Newman decided that they would like to create a seat that we would use in our school grounds near the Lone Pine tree, as part of their Personal Development and Work Related Skills classes. The Lone Pine tree that was in our school grounds has since been relocated and is looked after at the Greater Shepparton City Council depot.
As the project took off, the students approached Grant Hayes, from Pine Lodge Engineering, to plasma cut the ANZAC design, to then make the outdoor seat. The finished seat looks very professional, and shows great respect for the ANZAC’s and what they have done for all of us. The students also suggested that future VCAL students could visit the RSL Club to apply further coats of decking stain each year.
When they had finished the seat, the students decided it would possibly be lost as building on the new school commenced and it may be two or three years before it could be displayed or used. Tom and Jake agreed that they would finish the seat and see if the Shepparton RSL Club would like to have it for their car park.
They approached the Shepparton RSL Club who were delighted to accept the seat. It was felt that this would be the best place for it, and we are really happy and proud to say the response given was overwhelmingly, “Yes please, we love it.”
This has been a great project and we are so happy that the seat will be kept at the RSL Club.
