Program

Classroom learning is combined with structured hands-on training and practice in industry. The aim of this program is to:

  • Allow learners to develop basic technical skills to prepare for work in the live performance industry
  • Perform a combination of technical dance activities aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework at Level II
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Jazz and Contemporary dance styles.

Special Requirements

Year 2 students are strongly advised against undertaking Year 2 without first completing Year 1.  However, this could depend on prior experience. Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for dance and bring a laptop to each class.

 

The VCAA has determined that work placement is an appropriate and valuable 

component of all VET programs.

It is often difficult to find suitable work placements for all dance students. To overcome this situation at EMC we have organised industry visits ie. Live performances and dance companies and through involvement in performances such as eisteddfods and school productions.

 

Contribution to the VCE/VCE VM

On completion of the program students are eligible for four credits towards their VCE, two at Unit 1-2 level and a  Unit 3-4 sequence.

Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the primary four or as a fifth or sixth subject.

Graphic Design: This course is designed to introduce students to the theories and practices of creative arts industries, including those using emerging technology. Students will study skills in photo imaging and 3D printing common to screen and media, interactive games, graphic design and visual arts.

Program

Photography: This course is designed for students who wish to pursue a photographic 

career. It is designed to build the theoretical and practical skills required to develop photographic expertise both in the studio and on location, and helps students explore their creativity and develop their photographic eye for capturing and enhancing dynamic photography.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION & CARE - VCE (VET)

Program

This course offers the minimum qualification required to work in early childhood education and care settings with babies and children up to 6 years of age. It prepares students for centre-based, out-of-school hours, family day care and nanny roles and covers child development and how to foster and support children’s emotional and educational wellbeing.

 

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

There is 60 hours per year of SWL required for this course

 

Special Requirements

Students must be 16 years old on 1st February of the commencing year and have Year 10 Maths and English.  They will also need to attend a compulsory information session for their applications to be accepted and obtain a current Volunteer Working with Children Check.

Program

This course is designed to introduce students to the various careers available in electrotechnology through project- based, hands-on experience in the workshop. These careers include electrical, electronics, renewable energy and telecommunications.  Students who complete both years of the program will have completed a nationally recognised pre-vocational qualification for careers in this industry.  ALL students are required to attend a compulsory information session for their applications to be accepted.

 

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

SWL is not mandated in this program, however the VCAA strongly recommend all VET students undertake some work placement.  80 hours is recommended for this program.

 

Pathway

Successful students can continue with the Advanced Diploma of Electronics Engineering.

Employment opportunities exist in the electrical trades and in electronic installation, testing, repair or sales, working on audio systems, video systems, car electronic accessories, electronic ticketing systems, and vehicle engine management systems and computer interfacing.

EQUINE INDUSTRY - VCE (VET)

Program

This VCE VET program is designed as an introduction to the equine industry.  In the first year of the course you will learn the skills and knowledge to work safely with horses including basic horse husbandry and care, understanding equine behaviour, daily work routines and equine anatomy.

In the second year you will learn how to identify and monitor the signs of common illness and injury in horses; understand basic horse physiology and the impact of illness and injury on horses; identify conformation in horses and develop the ability to use appropriate conformation terminology to describe the relationship between conformation, movement and function and gain understanding of how to implement feeding programs, monitor the quality of feed, feed supplements and individual feeding habits of horses.

 

Special Requirements

  1. Students do not have to have their own horse. Practical sessions will be conducted at Ayre Hill Equestrian Centre (Clyde North) where access to horses is provided. The practical sessions run from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm and are a compulsory part of the program. Students will be expected to catch up on any work missed while they are participating in a practical session.
  2. Students will have face to face access to a qualified and experienced trainer on a weekly basis. The program is delivered via workbooks, activities, practical applications and support by internet research and textbook assignments.
  3. Purchase of the recommended text book is required.
  4. Students are required to undertake a Level 1 First Aid Certificate.
  5. Students are also to undertake a minimum of 40 hours Structured Workplace Learning before the end of Term 2. Students are required to source their own placement.
  6. Students require a moderate level of physical stamina, strength, agility and co-ordination in order to meet the physical demands and be safe when handling horses and performing stable management duties.

Program

The VCE VET Health program reflects industry and student demand for qualifications in the health industry. The program covers a wide range of work areas within the health industry. Students completing this program will have the skills and knowledge required to work in an entry-level role within a range of areas depending on the electives and focus of the program undertaken. The program will also provide a pathway into diploma level courses in remedial massage, myotherapy, nursing and community services. This program is designed to introduce students to the health industry providing students with hands-on real life experience. Students will look at the Australian health care system, interpreting and applying medical terminology, healthy body systems and assistance with movement.

Program

The Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Cyber Security) program is designed to introduce students who are enthusiastic and passionate about IT to network administration. The course covers IT hardware, operating systems and the fundamentals of network administration within the context of cyber security.

Cyber Security has been identified as priority skill shortage.  The Cert III is designed to develop the skills in preliminary networking.

Program

This course is designed to introduce students who are enthusiastic and passionate about gaming to the video games industry. The course covers IT hardware, digital imaging, animation, principles of game design, and interactive gaming and industry tools such as Unreal Development Kit. Students will be taught some advanced features of Microsoft Office. At this level, the emphasis is on simple game design.

Training & Employment Outcomes

The Certificate III in Information, Digital media and Technology (Games Creation) program is an ideal introduction to enter the world of game development. Completing this certificate course provides a pathways or entry level program for the higher level Certificate IV and into the Diploma.

Program

Explore the interior decoration industry in  a retail environment by undertaking this course. It will be delivered through a variety of interactive tutorials and class activities. You will work in groups and individually on activities weekly that build towards the completion of a portfolio of visual work.

 

Investigative tasks will be used to immerse you in the introduction to interior design elements, such as materials and finishes, lighting, furniture and accessories; design industry and its value in society and the relevance of history in contemporary design.

Practical tasks will include exploration of the following design essentials: Colour theory / ergonomics / manual drawing and computer aided design / preparation of mood board to communicate ideas / use of measuring devices / WHS implications of interior decoration effects.

80 hours of SWL is recommended but not mandated in this program. In the 2nd year of this program students are required to complete 12 service sessions and complete a log book. It is strongly advised that students complete at least some of this in the workplace, which can include Chisholm student restaurants.

This program is designed to introduce students to patisserie (cakes and pastries) cooking and provide the skills to work in a range of hospitality establishments.

80 hours of SWL is recommended but not mandated in this program. In the 2nd year of the program students are required to complete 12 service sessions and complete a log book.
