DISCOVERY CENTRE
Welcome back to the DC for Term 4, and thank you to Jo Matheson for keeping the DC afloat, while I have been on leave. During my holidays to Austria and France I visited a number of schools, libraries and bookshops. It is always interesting to see what is happening in other parts of the world in these areas. It is great to see our Australian authors represented too and see their books translated and on the shelves in other countries. Shaun Tan titles including his 2019 shortlisted book Cicada and books by Andy Griffiths and Mem Fox are all on bookshop shelves.
Back at SFX we have two new displays. One “Fairy Tales” celebrating this wonderful world, which sometimes gets overlooked by students in this modern era. It has been great to see these titles being borrowed. The second display “Jokes” is in fact no longer a display, as the shelves are completely empty, as every joke book has been borrowed with only the signage and posters left. I hope you have enjoyed sharing jokes together.
Following on from the success of our Book Fair in term 3 I have been out this weekend purchasing a number of new titles with our commission - something I love to do. Please see photos here of some great new titles which will be on our shelves later this week. Thank you again for your wonderful support of our annual Fair.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now over for another year. The special awards to both individuals and the winning class will be presented by local MP Vicki Ward at Assembly on Thursday 21st November. Well done to all those students who completed the challenge.
Book of the Week
Our Week 1 Book of the week was - “Definitely do not open this book” / by Andy Lee. Another book in this very popular series, which we enjoyed reading out loud and turning the pages!!
Our Week 2 Book of the week was - “Guinness world records gamer’s edition-2020” . This book is the global authority on video games. This annual book is filled with amazing records, remarkable feats and marvellous achievements by gamers.
Our Week 3 Book of the week is - “The treehouse joke book” / by Andy Griffiths. Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton have joined forces again, this time to produce a hilarious joke book. A fun book to share as a family. Question - What was the tallest mountain before Mt. Everest was discovered? Answer - Mt. Everest.
Happy reading.
