The Mark Taylor Shield

The Mark Taylor Shield is a cricket competition for Catholic Primary Schools, similar to the Brian Taber Shield offered by the P.S.S.A. The competition is played on a knockout basis with the initial rounds being held in Term 1 and the Semi-Finals and Final being held in Term 4.

Our first match is against Mary Immaculate Primary School, Eagle Vale on March 13 at 9:30am. The match will be played at St Gregory’s College on the oval that is used for our IPSSO cricket matches.

If you are available, you are more than welcome to come and support our young cricketers.

Good luck to the boys and Mr Smith!!!

Junior Basketball - St Greg’s 24 def Oran Park Anglican 10

On February 26, our College Junior Basketball Team played against Oran Park Anglican College?. St Gregory’s continued to show great teamwork and skill to take out the match 24-10. This was a fantastic result as the team was trailing for the majority of the first two quarters. Unfortunately, the game finished at the end of the third quarter due to the storm. Well done to Lachlan Lettieri who played a dominant defensive game against his previous school and Baxter Snushell for scoring a total of 16points.

Great work team!!!

Junior Girls Soccer - St Greg’s 10 def Oran Park Anglican 0

A strong win 10-0 against a competitive Oran Park Anglican side before a storm stopped the game with 10 minutes to go. It was pleasing to see the girls work together to pass the ball and show more understanding of where they should be on the field. The girls’ skills are certainly improving each week.

St Gregory’s began the game on the front foot scoring a number of quick tries. In the 2nd half we were able to score 3 entertaining tries before the game was called off due to the storms.

Well done to the team for not only their result but for their continued sportsmanship each week!!

Western Region Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday, 3 March we had a team of 23 students representing St Gregory’s College that competed against the Catholic Schools in the Western region of the Wollongong Diocese at Bradbury Pool.

All students represented our College displaying a great standard of competition and sportsmanship.

Our College ended up with some fantastic results both individually and as a team. Special mention to Denham Tsagalas who finished runner up in the Junior Boys Age Champion and to Alexandra Nothdurfter who won the 11 years Girl’s Age Champion. As a team, the boys won the male point score for the third year in a row, the girls finished third in the female point score and it was really exciting for our College to win the overall point score of the meet for the first time.

The number of individual achievements, as well as relay successes, resulted in 14 students chosen to represent the College next Monday 9th March at Corrimal Pool for the Wollongong Diocesan Team Selection Trials.
