Bottle Rockets - Year 10 Science

Year 10 are currently studying Newton’s Laws of motion, and today this week 10F completed an experiment to demonstrate the 3rd law- for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Some groups were very successful and had high flying rockets!

2020 NSW SCHOOL VACCINATION PROGRAM

Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program.

In 2020 the following vaccines will be offered to Year 7 students:

Year 7 students will bring home a Parent Information Kit which includes an information sheet, consent form and privacy statement. To consent to the vaccination of your child, parents/guardians are advised to:

  • read all the information provided.
  • complete the consent form, sign your name next to the vaccine/s you want your child to receive.
  • return the completed consent form to your child’s school.
  • ensure that your child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic.

Please note that, to improve vaccination completion, students:

  • can return a completed consent form at any time during Year 7.
  • can be opportunistically vaccinated for any missed doses during Year 7 or Year 8 (for HPV and dTpa vaccination).
  • if absent on vaccination clinic day – the school immunisation team will send you an SMS and catch up your child at the next scheduled visit and ensure correct vaccine intervals are met.
  • do not need to go to the GP unless this is your personal preference.

Parents/guardians who wish to withdraw their consent for any reason may do so by writing to the College Principal or by phoning the College. The procedure for Withdrawal of Consent is available on the NSW Health website at https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation/Pages/withdraw_consent.aspx

A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic as a paper card. Details about vaccinations given at school will also be uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to support complete vaccination histories, which can be downloaded via MyGov. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the SWSLHD Public Health Unit on 1300 055 066 or contact the College.

What's happening in the Marian Centre....

The Marian Centre continues to be a place of purpose within the College. Students from all year groups have demonstrated their love of the space with increased numbers of visitors during the opening sessions. Homework Club is well frequented and Year groups enjoy both Pastoral and Academic Care presentations within the Centre.

One new use of the space is to highlight assessment details. Mrs Quinn has been making use of her incredible creative skills and has written up all of the Year 7 and 8 Term One due dates on the windows of the Academic Care offices. It has been really exciting to see our students meeting in front of the windows and discussing the nature of the tasks and the deadlines. We encourage all students to continue to visit the Marian Centre to seek support, use the work spaces, check their assessment due dates and collaborate in meaningful ways.

Year 7 Twilight Dance 2020

It was a pleasure to have been a part of the 2020 Year 7 Twilight Dance held at St Gregory’s. A special thank you to Mrs Buckley, all the parent helpers, Mr Wilson, Mrs Simmons, Ms Burke, Mr Halaifonua and our six Year 11 helpers. Thank you to the wonderful staff from St Patrick’s College who attended and helped to make the event worthwhile.

This year the dance was attended by many students keen to get on the dance floor and showcase their moves. The dance was also a ‘Mobile Phone Free Zone’ so the young men and women really tried to interact and get to know each other a lot more, which was great to see.

By 6.00pm the BBQ was ready to be served and dessert shortly followed. The excitement of the young crowd was elevated to new heights when the boxes of ice-creams were given out.

As the night wrapped up, the DJ played some classic tunes which got everyone on the dance floor and singing along.

All the students exhibited exemplary manners, were respectful and courteous and enjoyed themselves.
