2017 has been a very busy year for our Kilvonian community. It’s been fantastic to see so many at our regular reunions, along with our annual Konnections event and also mentoring and sharing their experiences of our VCE workshops.

We are continually working on ways to keep in touch with our Alumni. Our dedicated Kilvonian Alumni website is a great place to catch up and connect with what’s happening in the Kilvington world as is our closed Kilvonian Facebook group. This year we published the first and now our second edition of the online Kilvonian Newsletter, another avenue to share what our Kilvonians have been doing in their lives after leaving School. We hope you are enjoying it to date!

Wishing all of our valued Kilvonians a happy and safe festive season ahead and we look forward to connecting again in 2018.

Kilvonian Konnections

A real highlight of the year was the Kilvonian Konnections event on November 15. We welcomed back to Kilvington past student, Yvette Gray (peer year 1997) as our special guest speaker. Yvette is an award winning journalist with ABC Melbourne with more than 15 years as a reporter working in TV, radio, newspapers and online.

Yvette had us all enthralled with tales of some of the big stories she has broken, the changes to the media landscape she has witnessed throughout her career and more. It was also a real treat to have many past teachers attend this year. This event provides a great opportunity to mingle with past classmates, network and stay connected.

Many thanks to Kilvonians Teena Caithness, Jess Coles, Ann Cleghorn, Holly Dean, Ellen Massuger and Julie Scott for their help on the organising committee for Kilvonian Konnections. If you would like to be involved in the 2018 event, please let us know. Details for Kilvonians Konnections 2018 can be found on Upcoming Events and Staying Connected (page 6).

Welcome to our Alumni

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our Class of 2017 to the Kilvonian Alumni community. As you move off into this next chapter here are some words from award winning author and illustrator, Jeanette Rowe (Kilvonian, peer year 1972).

None of us knows what the future holds for us and none of us knows the depths of our own potential.

This is what life is for, to explore who we are and what we have to offer the world.

Always remember, when things look overwhelmingly bad, life can inexplicably change on a pin for the better.

If we are true to ourselves and learn to listen to our own true voice, we can always find the right path for ourselves.

Trust yourselves, learn to know yourselves, nurture and value your gifts.

Life is to be lived in all its layers, the good and the bad, the happiness and the sadness, the despair and the joy.

The depths of one cannot truly be felt without the experience of the other.

Even seeming failure can be a blessing and take us to a better path.

Recognise when you need support. Seek out strong mentors, true friends and loving family.

No one is ever alone, we carry the love of our families and friends inside us, wherever we go in life.

Nothing can take this from us.

Learning is for life! Never stop! Laugh out loud! Embrace your life. This is real success!

You are your own the future! Strive to make good choices!
