From the   Principal's

Desk

Janine Kinninment

We have had a smooth start to the term. It is pleasing to see high attendance of our students despite being the time of the year for the flu season.  Our interschool cross country squad has commenced training before school.  Thank you to Mr Gavin Turner our Parent Board Representative for coaching these students. Our Community and Faction Assemblies are on hold until our month of swimming lessons are over.

Last term students voted for the name of our new undercover area block.  The results are below. Karrakin or red-tailed black cockatoo was the overwhelming favourite.

We are currently organising a mosaic and signage for Karrakin Block.  We will be formally opening this new build later in the year.

Swimming Lessons

Rooms 14,16B, 18, 6, 7, 10, 28 classes have been participating in swimming lessons over the last two weeks.  Next fortnight the rest of the school from Pre-primary to Year 6 will be involved in swimming lessons.  As you can imagine this will mean a number of changes to our normal program.  I thank you for your patience regarding any changes in program that effects your child.

Working With Children Check

There have been Working with Children Check changes in legislation that have now come into effect. This impacts parent and child volunteers on school sites.  Please read this information that can be found further in our newsletter. For parent/carers to volunteer at a school they will need to complete a form prior to volunteering for events such as helping out in a classroom, attending a day excursion, assisting at a sports carnival, or conducting P&C duties. Forms will be available from Reception or your child’s teacher.

Staff update

We have a number of new staff commence at Burrendah. Welcome to Maddison Lynn and Aaron Vinci.

Maddison is an Education Assistant Special Needs who works from Tuesday to Thursday.  Aaron is our new Senior Physical Education (PE) teacher for Thursday’s and Friday’s for Term 3.

Sport update

Mr Crouch will continue on leave this term. Aaron Vinci will be working with Janine Bain to organise the Senior Athletics Carnival in Week 9.

Kade Ellis will be organising the Interschool Cross Country for our Burrendah students on the new date of Friday 1st September.  Parent volunteer Gavin Turner is training the squad of students twice a week before school.

Our Slam students (Year 3 and Year 4 boys and girls basketball) have commenced their training. Thank you to Willetton Senior High School for enabling these students to use their indoor basketball court before school for their training. Parent volunteer Tim Newey is the coach for the girl’s team and Matthew Knight is the coach for the boy’s team. Their first competition is Monday 21st August.
