Swimming

We have been very busy with swimming since returning after the holidays. The children are learning water safety and following the instructions given by the swimming teachers. All children are showing their increased independence skills by changing their clothes after swimming. Some children have never participated in lessons, whilst others are increasing their confidence with swimming strokes in the water. The bus ride has been a hit with the children as many had yet to experience this.

100 Days smarter

Since Day 1 of Pre-primary, our class has been counting the number of days at school. We are learning to count by 1s and by 10s. This week we reached 100 so we have our Party Day. We were lucky to have a special recess of party foods, created pictures using 100 pop sticks, geometrical shapes, and Legos, and built towers using 100 cups. Lots of fun was had especially when we pegged a person using 100 pegs.

Hefting

This week we are beginning our hefting unit. We are learning to pick up items and figuring out items which are heavy and/or light. We are gaining confidence in using the terms lighter than and heavier than. Miss Marlow hefted all of us and some children were very light whilst others were heavy. You will see us hefting items around our room.

Bunnings

This term our class will be creating a special present for our Dads by using materials donated by Bunnings. The children are super keen to use the hammers and glue. No photos as we want to surprise our Dad. Thanks again to Bunnings Willetton for providing these items.

Room 15

Maths

Last term Room 15 started looking at clocks and telling the time to ‘o clock’. We built our own clocks and then made different times. As a class, we spoke about the difference between the minute and hour hands and why clocks are important.

We have also been practicing measuring length. Using blocks, we measured flowers and recorded our findings. Now we are learning how to order objects from shortest to tallest and appropriate ways to measure length.

Willetton Students Reading Program

In Term 2 we were very lucky to have a group of students from Willetton Senior High School visit us every Monday. In a small group, they read to us and asked us some comprehension questions to help us understand the story we were listening to.

 Talk For Writing

This term our Talk For Writing text is The Gingerbread Man. For our ‘hook’, we cooked, decorated, and ate Gingerbread biscuits... YUM! During this unit of work, we will be looking at nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We will even be innovating the story to create our own version of The Gingerbread Man! In our home corner, we have a bakery set up where we have been creating all sorts of tasty sweet treats!
