PwC Higher Apprenticeship success

As part of our work to lift student aspirations, expose them to a corporate work environment and enable them to consider an alternative post-school pathway, Ourschool collaborated with PwC to host an informative breakfast in June. Year 12 students from all of the schools involved in the Ourschool Alumni Program, including MFG, attended and learnt about the Higher Apprenticeship Program offered by PwC.

We are thrilled to report that one of our Year 12 students who attended, Abbey McGeady, made it through the selection process and was offered a position in the Technology Consulting team! She wrote: "I can't believe I succeeded and I made it past 700 other applicants, but not only that, had the school not been connected to the group (Ouschool!) that organised the day at PwC, I wouldn't be here today, I wouldn't even know about PwC. So thank-you."

We wish Abbey all the best next year and beyond as she embarks on a career at PwC.

Careers 'Show and tell' with our Alumni

Last week we welcomed back an energetic, inspirational and genuine group of alumni to speak with our 2020 Year 10 students about their professions. It was an opportunity for students to learn about and gain, real-life insight into what it is our alumni do on a day-to-day/week-to-week basis in their field of work.

Students selected which four of the eight alumni they wished to hear from, with each presentation following a ‘Show & Tell’ format. Student engagement was high with many questions being fired at the alumni, whilst a large number of students stuck around at lunchtime to continue to chat, one-on-one with our alumni guests.

We cannot thank enough, each of the following amazing individuals for giving up their time to give back to their old secondary school and supporting the current students of MFG:

  • Celeste Robertson ’02, owner of Natural Supply Co, an online store selling natural, organic and plastic free goodies.
  • Kate Seiz ’02, owner of lifestyle brand, Picnic Season, selling art-inspired, over-sized picnic rugs and insulated picnic baskets.
  • Kate Wingad ’01, Senior Project Engineer at John Holland and the Instrumentation and Monitoring Manager for the West Gate Tunnel Project.
  • Mackenzie Warden ’18, Assistant Property Manager and Office Administrator at a Real Estate Agency in Geelong.
  • Rhiannon Kelly ’08, a Nurse and Midwife.
  • Serena Gravett ’17, a Chef at Truffleduck.
  • Jacquie Dunlop ’79, a Police Officer specialising in Crime Scene Investigation.
  • Pip Younes ’11, a Communications Officer and Media and Communications Advisor for the State Government.

You have all, without a doubt, made a positive impact on and have broadened the minds of our students.
