Dear Murrumbeena Families

With only 3 weeks to go until our amazing production of “Shrek Jr” with Prep - Year 3 showcase “Once Upon a Time in Murrumbeena”, it is time for an update on a few things.

Students are currently working hard in rehearsals and have begun run-throughs.

Spoiler Alert: It is looking AMAZING!!!!!! It is going to be a show to remember. Walking around the yard, I constantly hear students singing and practising their dance. Their enthusiasm and excitement is incredible.

If you haven’t already got your tickets, please do so. There are about 100 left, and they are open for any family to buy.

COSTUMES:

Once again, every performer will be provided with extraordinary professional costumes to wear. These costumes will make every student feel extra special and find a little more magic in their performance. A huge amount of effort and time has been put into choosing and sizing costumes. We will provide everything….. except shoes and socks. We ask that every child wear black shoes and dark socks. They can be runners, ballet flats, school shoes, $3 canvas shoes from Big W or Kmart as long as they are safe to dance in.

But Ms Nugent why do student have to wear black shoes? The answer is simple. I organise over 10000 pieces of costuming. They are all different colours, shapes, materials, characters, eras and styles and……

Black shoes go with everything.

Black shoes look good on stage and don’t stand out and take away from the costume.

Black shoes can be easy and cheap to find.

When hundreds of different students and parents ask me, “What colour shoes do I need to wear?”, it is easy for me and every teacher to simply answer “Black”.

Yes, of course, your student can still perform if they don’t wear the correct shoes, however, I really appreciate your support.

IMPORTANT COSTUME INFORMATION:

Most costumes will be sent home in a labelled bag the day before production on Thursday 7 September. Please treat them with respect and care.

Some costumes and accessories will be kept by the class teacher and taken to the theatre (especially larger pieces)

Students do not need to wear or bring their costumes to school on the day of production, Friday, 8th September.

Students must wear their costumes to the theatre when they arrive at 6pm for the performance (unless the teacher has it).

ALL PARTS OF COSTUMES MUST BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY 11 SEPTEMBER OR A LATE FEE MAY BE CHARGED.

If your child will not be at school on Monday 11 September or won’t be able to return their costume for any reason, please let the class teacher know, and they will collect it directly after the performance.

DO NOT WASH OR CLEAN COSTUMES.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

Once again, we are asking for a wonderful group of parent volunteers to collect and return costumes. We need about 6-7 cars (the bigger, the better) to transport the 10000 costume pieces! The costumes are located in Coburg (about an hour's drive from Murrumbeena Primary School).

Dates:

Pick up Coburg/Drop off M.P.S: Wednesday 30 August(time to be confirmed but usually around 10am.

Pick up M.P.S/Drop off Coburg: Wednesday 13 September (time to be confirmed)
