Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,

In light of the recent floods, we are aware that members of our community have been affected in various ways and to varying degrees. I would like to acknowledge our community for quickly supporting and working together to help those in need.

Families who have been affected, please contact the school as we would like to be able to assist families where we can. We have already been contacted by some families and are aware of their situation.

I have been researching options for families who have been impacted by the floods and the following are the best places to start with if you need support:

  • Maribyrnong Community Centre, 9 Randall Street, Maribyrnong.
    • Emergency Relief Centre
  • Flood Recovery Hotline is a single state-wide number, 1800 560 760, that Victorians impacted by the October 2022 floods can call for help or assistance with:
  • navigating available supports
  • clean-up
  • temporary accommodation
  • mental health and wellbeing support

Colour Fun Run Fundraiser

JSC have been continuing to plan and organise the Colour Fun Run fundraising opportunity for this term. The date has been set to Friday December 9th, and yes there is definitely a ‘slime the principal’ opportunity (the whispers were true). There will be confirmation and details about the Colour Fun Run coming from JSC.

JSC are very excited that they have been able to have this opportunity and will begin promoting it at the school over the coming weeks.

Classroom Helpers

On Monday we held our first Classroom Helpers information session after assembly. The purpose of the session was to provide information and expectations about volunteering in the classroom.  Please find attached a copy of the presentation and information shared at the session.

We will be adding additional information to the school website soon and will communicate when this is ready for parents who are wanting to volunteer in classrooms.

We will aim to hold another session in a couple of weeks as an additional opportunity for those who couldn’t make it this week.

Shade Sails

The installation of our new shade sails has begun last week. Workers were onsite digging and erecting the support poles for the sails. The poles need time to set and we are now expecting the sails to be added in the next 3 weeks. We will then work on landscaping this area for student use.

Curriculum Day Reminder

Just a reminder that we have our Curriculum Day on Monday 31st October (day before Melbourne Cup Day). Camp Australia will be available on the day for families requiring their services.

Leaving MPW in 2023?

We continue planning towards the 2023 school year, a reminder that if you are planning on your child(ren) not being at Moonee Ponds West in 2023 that you please complete the form below and return to the office or to  moonee.ponds.west.ps@education.vic.gov.au

This information will help the school to confirm enrolment numbers for next year.

If you are not returning, I offer thanks to the student(s) and family for their contributions and partnership with our school. We wish all the best for those moving on to a new setting in their future learning journey.

Regards,

Jarrod Sutton
