Week Two of Lent: Theme Sharing The Good News

As a family, discuss all the different countries your extended family has lived in. Pray for all who live far away from home. Please pray for protection from coronavirus for all communities, especially those in Asia. People living in poverty face increased vulnerability with lack of access to prevention and treatment. Pray that the church would be a peaceful presence in times of fear and uncertainty.

Project Compassion: Caritas

Let's Go Further Together!

Just a reminder that we are fundraising for Project Compassion. 100% of money raised goes directly to those in need. There will be a prize for the grade that raises the most money.

The Good Sammies

'The Good Sammies' are a group of students in Years 3-6 that are not in our school choir. Whilst students in choir provide a service of singing for our school community, 'The Good Sammys' will provide other opportunities of service. This will occur each Thursday afternoon. If your child is not in the choir please ask them what service they are providing to our school community?

Caritas Milo Balls

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Good Samaritans of Sacred Heart (The Good Sammies) are selling Milo Balls on Friday 13th to help raise money for Caritas who will help the less fortunate. So, if you're reading this then please buy a few to help people that don't have as much as we do! Nikita and Hanna

School Closure Day Monday 7th September.

On Monday 7th September, staff will take part in a special Religious Education day where they will attend the Jewish Museum and learn about religious customs with a special tour of a Jewish synagogue. This day will provide staff with a better understanding of Jesus growing up as a Jew and will make connections between the Bible/New Testament.

Behaviour Management

In the last newsletter we shared the school rules with our school community. This week we are sharing the consequences if the rules are not followed.

As a part of normal teaching practice, teachers are expected to positively reinforce students, affirm

compliant behaviour, model school rules and be directive when needing to repeat rules or expectations.

If the school rules continue to be broken then we follow these steps:

First warning – “This is your first warning, you need to think about your behaviour before there

are more serious consequences”

Second warning – “This is your second warning, you need to have some thinking time away

from the group”

Third warning “This is your third warning, go to another classroom”

Within the same year level or if a specialist, next year level

Time should be no longer than 10 minutes

Fourth warning “This is your final warning, go to the Principal”

Next newsletter we will outline the difference between 'thinking time' and 'time out'.

National Day of Action Against Bullying Friday 20th March

National definition of bullying for schools Developed by educators across Australia:

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening. Bullying can happen in person or online, various digital platforms and devices, and it can be obvious(overt) or hidden(covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records). Bullying of any form or for any reason can have

immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and

conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.
