First Eucharist

Wow! what a blessing it was last night to celebrate First Eucharist with some of our Year 4 and Year 5 students. Tonight we have two more celebrations and then next week a final one. For our Year 5s, I have had 6 dates in my diaries to celebrate COHR First Eucharist over the past two years! Three last year and three this year. But with each lockdown, we have made new dates... but now we have actually, joyfully celebrated this most special step on our children's faith journey.
Personally it is certainly a wow moment in my own faith journey. To have spent the time preparing and the last week practicing with the children, it has been a delight to see them in our Church and having them reflect with reverence on the importance of this Sacrament. They have all taken this step very seriously and the questions I have been asked have really shown such deep thought and contemplation.
Earlier in the year we asked the students what celebrating First Eucharist meant to them:
"... God has entered me."
"... to follow in Jesus' footsteps and remember his sacrifice."
"... that it is a special time to be thankful and celebrate with family and to remember to thank Jesus for giving his life for us."
"... I will become closer to God and Jesus and follow them in every step."
"... to give thanks and to love God."
"... Jesus sharing a meal and sacrificing for us."
On behalf of the whole COHR Community I would like to congratulate our First Communicants and pray that the celebration of this sacrament enables them to grow ever closer to God.
Photos were taken on the night and if you would like to access them the flyer is attached below.
Take care and keep safe,
