Debating

Round 3 has now been completed for all teams except for our Senior As – they will have their Secret Topic debate next Wednesday night. All they know so far is that it will be on US politics!

The most impressive aspect of this week’s debates has been the spirit of our students. With many illnesses occurring, we did not have to forfeit a single debate. Teams organised replacement speakers, and we are very grateful for those girls who filled in; some debating for the very first time. We had a few wins, but the positive approach of each team was really pleasing to see. We have now had over 60 students from Year 5 to Year 11 participating in inter-school debating this year.

Mock Trial

The girls are to be thanked for their enthusiasm, involvement and participation in Mock Trial 2022. We are very proud of their efforts and support of one another. We have received an email from the Law Society with the minor round results. Despite very strong and compelling performances, in all three trials, the team has narrowly missed out on reaching the finals.

Rostrum Public Speaking

Our best wishes go to Alexandra Seal (Year 10) who will be competing in the Rostrum State Final at Parliament House tomorrow night.

Tournament of Minds

Nominations are now being received for this problem-solving challenge which will take place over six weeks in Term Three. Students will work in a team of seven to provide a creative solution to a challenge in the areas of Language Literature, Social Sciences, STEM or the Arts. Tournament Day, when the students present their solutions, will be Sunday 11 September at Flinders University. This activity is open to students from Year 5 to Year 10. Information sheets and Expression of Interest forms are on Loreto Connect.

Through this experience students have been introduced to a variety of individual, partner and progressive dances, with a focus on the dance elements of space, dynamics, time and relationships. They have developed an awareness of different rhythms, patterns and timing, an appreciation of different types of music, and the traditional manners and etiquette associated with dancing with a partner.
