Learning Across the

Junior School

Year 5 Excursion to the Botanic Gardens

The Year 5s have been inquiring into animal and plant adaptations. Last week, the girls were fortunate to take part in guided tours at the Botanic Gardens where they learnt many plant adaptations that help them to survive in different biomes. The girls had such a brilliant day!

Year 5 Band Concert

The Year 5 Class held their Band Concert in the Performing Arts Centre on Thursday evening. Students have been learning either a Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Saxophone or Trombone. They played together as a concert band, and many of the girls displayed confidence to perform solos and duets. It was a wonderful night of music and we are so proud of the Year 5s.

Inquiry Learning in Reception

This term we have been learning all about special places as part of our Inquiry learning. We …

  • identified places that we live in and belong to and observed and described their features
  • developed our understanding about why places are special and important to people and ways that we can care for familiar places
  • used maps to represent places and positional language to describe different locations
  • listened to stories and created story maps
  • used story maps to show where the characters went, linking this to Digital Technology where we represented a sequence of steps (algorithms) to save the three little pigs from the wolf!
  • acknowledge that our place is also the place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

It has been a fun and busy term!

Junior STEM Club

A really awesome afternoon spent with our Junior Student STEM Club on Wednesday as they designed and created a carrier to support an egg from a high distance with the aim to keep it intact!

The girls used design thinking to design and construct a reusable egg-stronaut lander that could survive repeated falls from different heights. They sketched their designs, built their prototypes using recycled materials, measured and estimated different release heights and conducted tests to improve their egg-stronaut landers.

Well done to all students involved in the project!

Throughout the semester, students have also been involved in using Tinkercard to design 3D objects to take to space, wrote messages in binary code and made use of the schools 3D printers.

Nominations for the Loreto P&F Committee, Volunteer Pool and Year Level Representatives

We have many great opportunities for Parents and Caregivers to become involved in our College Community. We are currently seeking nominations for the following roles:

Year Level Representatives ELC-12

The Year level/Class representatives act as the primary liaison between Class and year level Parents and the P&F Committee. These roles play a crucial part in maintaining and developing our Community spirit as they:

Parents & Friends Committee

The Parents and Friends of Loreto is a Parent group whose purpose is to promote and encourage Community Spirit within the College.

Parents and Friends Volunteer Pool

The Volunteer Pool works closely with the P&F Committee to assist with the various events and fundraising activities conducted throughout the year. This provides an opportunity for Parents and Carers to contribute as their schedule or time permits.
