Co-Curricular Arts Groups

There are many co-curricular Arts activities at Mount Carmel in the Secondary School again this year.  In Term 1 there are:

  • Our Year 9/10 Choir (Senior Singers) rehearse on Wednesdays at lunchtime.
  • Our Year 6/7/8 Choir (Middle Years Voices) rehearse on Tuesdays at lunchtime. Both of these choirs are un-auditioned, meaning that anyone can join up as long as they can commit to attending rehearsals and are keen to sing!
  • The College Orchestra rehearses on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30pm - 4:45pm. This ensemble is for all woodwind, brass, string, and percussion players from Years 5 - 10 that have some experience on their instrument.
  • The Intro Orchestra is a group for students who are beginners on the instruments of the Orchestra in Years 5 - 8. This group will begin rehearsals in Week 8 after the Year 7 students have an opportunity to play one of these instruments in class time. Rehearsals will be at the same time as Orchestra on Tuesday afternoons.
  • The Mount Carmel Ceilidh Band will be playing Irish and Scottish tunes on Thursdays at lunchtime.
  • The College Musical will be staged this year and the band - ‘The Boogie Girls’ will be rehearsing on Fridays at lunchtime.
  • We are starting a College Funk Band - ‘The Funky Blazers’! This group will jam on Mondays at lunchtime.
  • Ms Megan Marsden will be running the outstanding MCC Dance Troupe this year on Thursdays at lunchtime.
  • Ms Marsden will take the Dance Development Squad on Tuesdays at lunchtime as well.

It is always wonderful to see so many of our students get involved in performing arts co-curricular groups. There really is an opportunity for all students with any level of experience and it’s a great way for students to attain points towards College Colours, as well as to get to know students from other classes and year levels. It’s not too late to join most of these groups.
