Year 5/6 Winter Sport Challenge

Our Year 5/6 students have been participating in a weekly Winter Sport Challenge this term, in games of Basketball, Netball, Soccer and Volleyball.

Lacrosse

We had a representative from Chadstone Lacrosse Club running clinics for our Year 5/6 students this week, as part of the Sporting Schools program.

Lacrosse has its origins in a tribal game played by Native Americans and by some Plain Indian tribes in what is now the United States of America and Canada. There were hundreds of native men playing a ball game with sticks. The game began with the ball being tossed into the air and the two sides rushing to catch it. Because of the large number of players involved, these games generally tended to involve a huge mob of players swarming the ball and slowly moving across the field. Passing the ball was thought of as a trick, and it was seen as cowardly to dodge an opponent. Years later lacrosse is still a popular sport played all over the world.

Coach Sam taught us the basic skills of the game including scooping, cradling, passing & goal shooting.

AusKicker of the Year

CONGRATULATIONS to Lewis in Foundation for taking out the Auskicker of the Year award for the Syndal South/Waverley Blues Auskick program.

Grounds

Shout out to Jeff Fuller who braves the wintry conditions to ensure that our grounds are kept safe for our kids to enjoy.

Footy Tipping

As we approach the final round, we have a 3 way tie at the top of the leaderboard. There is also a $20 jackpot to keep the rest of us interested.
