Aerobics National Championships

Congratulations to our Aerobics Teams who participated in the School Aerobics National Championships at Broadbeach, Queensland over the weekend. The students, through their performances on stage and their behaviour off stage, epitomised the school values: Integrity, Curiosity, Care, Respect, and Resilience. The teams won 7 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals at the two-day competition.

Special thanks and congratulations to Miss Dodson and Mrs Searle for all their hard work and the extra time that they have dedicated to the program over the year. Thank you to Miss Canavan and the Committee who have been tirelessly involved over the year and particularly around competition days. With their last child being in their final year at Syndal South we say a huge thank you to Fiona Bahr and Katherine Duke for their dedication and unrelenting commitment over many years to the Aerobics Committee.

Cognercise Workshops

Judd Murray, the creative force behind Cognercise has presented works to our staff, students and parents this week. He spoke about the principles of Cognercise and its Four Pillars of Wellbeing: Essential Health, Physical Literacy, Mental Fitness and Social Intelligence. Judd is passionate about the need for self-empowerment as a way for individuals to realise their potential and to stay healthier longer. In his own words, "Cognercise has been designed to provide high quality tools and content which help empower all people without prejudice, enabling them to better realise their physical, mental and emotional potential and a sustainable state of health and wellbeing."

We had around 50 parents attend the parent’s workshop last night which was a fantastic response. I am confident that they all left the night armed with tools and information, designed to strengthen family health and wellbeing.

Monash Science

James and Mitchell from the Monash University School of Earth Science and Environment were here today to conduct an experiment to assist them in developing a teaching tool for geoscience graduates to understand ballistics accelerated by explosive volcanic eruptions. The experiment was called the ‘Trashcano.’ Students from Years 3 to 6 were the audience.

Book Week

‘Book Week’ is upon us, with the winners of the prestigious Children’s Book Council of Australia being announced last week. At school we have been celebrating with all classes reading the short-listed books.  Our major celebratory Book Week activity is planned for tomorrow (Friday), our special ‘Book Character’ Parade at 9am, which is sure to be a highlight. 

Fete News                                                  

A reminder that in preparation for the Fete we are asking for a ‘Lucky Jar’ to be sent to school tomorrow. We would like the clean jars to be filled with appropriate items that customers would like to purchase at the Fete. For example, hair accessories, stationery, sealed lollies, small toys etc. Please see the flyer below.

Launch into Learning

Yesterday, we had a fabulous roll up for our third ‘Launch into Learning’ session. This is where we invite future 2020 students to come and experience what our great school offers. The children enjoyed an engaging Visual Art lesson with Mrs Mann. The children made their own colourful jig saw puzzle.

A further reminder, in regards to 2020 enrolments, if there are any siblings that haven’t yet enrolled for next year if you could contact the Office for enrolment forms and if you know of anyone, a neighbour, or someone from a friendship circle, who has a child ready to start school next year can you please encourage them to contact the Office.

Coding Opportunity

I have been approached by the company 'Code Camp' to run an after-school coding program. I had previously heard from a parent about the program as their child had participated in the program and they were most impressed by the quality of it.

We are therefore asking for expressions of interest for Year 2 - 6 students interested in attending an after school coding program run by 'Code Camp'.  It would run 1 day a week after school for 8 weeks for 75 minutes per session (the day of the week has not been determined as yet).  The cost of the program would be $260 per student.  Please complete the google form (link attached below) if you are interested in your child attending.  We require a minimum of 10 students for the program to go ahead.

Fathers Day Stall

The Foxy Crafters have been working very hard to produce some fantastic items that will be on sale next Friday at the Fathers Day stall, prices start at $2.  If students want to purchase something special for their Father from the stall they should bring their money to school in an envelope with their name on it.
