Indonesian News

Sayembara Lisan

We were very proud to host the regional Indonesian speaking competition on Friday 17th of May.  On this day over 120 students from 4 schools demonstrated their abilities to speak Indonesian as part of a state-wide competition. Our students were great ambassadors for the college.

From this day, five of our students were selected to travel to Melbourne University to compete at the state finals.

Congratulations to

  • Airha Esong – year 7
  • Isla McNulty – year 7
  • Hudson Harris – year 8
  • Eliza Hoffamn – year 8
  • Airlie O’brien – year 10.

Finally, this week we were notified that Eliza received a highly commended award from the state judges and Hudson finished third in the state. Amazing!

UN Debate

On Thursday the 30th of May, nine enthusiastic year 12 Indonesian students travelled to Treasury Place in Melbourne to debate the world’s waters. They joined another 100 students from across the state of Victoria.  Discussing the issues of overfishing, pollution and in particular, the impact of plastics in the ocean, these students were divided into three teams to represent Afghanistan, Guatemala and Indonesia. The fun twist with the debate was that there was not a word of English; the entire event was all spoken in Indonesian! We were very proud of their efforts and preparation to compete at this event
