Last friday, the year 11 and 12 music students performed their ‘Jazz’ and ‘Music for small ensemble’ performance assessments in our Drama room. We are lucky to have such a brilliant space to offer students the opportunity to perform.

I would like to thank Charlie O’Sullivan, Kemuel Dela Rosa and Sione Valele for playing drums, bass guitar and guitar in some of the year 12 performances. The standard was very high and the experience was fantastic preparation for the year 11’s own HSC next year.

Our year 12 HSC music students are currently preparing their final HSC piece choices, compositions and Viva Voces and beginning to rehearse in and out of school. They will have an opportunity to showcase these to an audience in week 5 term 3.

Thursday 12th May - Michael Dolce Q and A and Guitar Workshop

Yesterday, Michael Dolce, who is the house guitarist for the show ‘The Voice’ presented a Question and Answer session for creative arts students and musicians at Marian in the Drama room.

This included some insightful information around being a professional musician in the industry and coping with the stresses that come with high pressure situations like performing on the Voice. Michael had some great advice for our HSC students and was incredibly supportive and genuine throughout the presentation.

We were incredibly lucky that Michael also gave a masterclass workshop to our guitarists. It was amazing to see the results he achieved with the students in such a short time. Michael’s friend Brendan, who is also a professional musician, made the students feel comfortable and confident in their abilities when put on the spot.
