ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Our annual House Athletics Carnival was held at Duncan McKinnon Reserve in fantastic weather. It was great to see a large number of students participating in events and representing their House. It was also pleasing to see the effort that many students went to with their 'House' costumes.
The final results at the conclusion of the events was:
1. Grevillea 998
2. Acacia 754
3. Waratah 750
4. Banksia 677
Congratulations to Grevillea.
YEAR 8A – BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The boys represented the school in an outstanding manner. They improved every game and played some incredible points in a very tight competition. The A team came 1st in their group and then took out the final in a convincing fashion. Congratulations to all the boys who will now represent the college on the regional stage.
YEAR 8B – BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The boys won 3 out of 4 games with three sets each and lost one game. All the games were really close and the team showed resilience to come from a setdown in multiple games to win. Overall, they played well and won the B competition too. Well done guys. A big thanks to Maddie Pallis for coaching the team for training and on the day
YEAR 8 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL A & B
The year 8 A and B-Girls teams both improved massively in each game they played. They won a couple of sets which was amazing to see and I felt really proud of them and they did really well as they played really good games. Thanks to Kyra and Kimberly for coaching the girls at training and during the games.
YEAR 7 VOLLEYBALL
It was fabulous to see the year 7 girls Volleyball team play their 5 games against Brentwood, Wheelers Hill A and B teams and Wellington A and B teams. The girls represented South Oakleigh College with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. It was fabulous to see the students develop over the day and encourage each other throughout the games. A special mention to Alyssa Costanzo and Sarah Tang for their fabulous serving all day. Well done.
YEAR 7 & 8 BOYS TENNIS
Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys team. They were undefeated across the day, including a crucial win in a tight contest against Brentwood. They will now advance to the Regional stage.
The Year 8 Boys team tried hard throughout the day and continued to improve, finishing 3rd in their competition.
YEAR 7 & 8 GIRLS TENNIS – Report courtesy of Mia Barackas (Year 8)
I do not enjoy physical activity. Inter-school sport isn’t something you’ll see me participating in very often. This year I made an exception because I thought it might be fun to do something out of my comfort zone. Turns out it was more out-of-my-comfort-zone than I might of thought. Mind you, I have never even picked up a tennis racket in my life. I don’t know why I thought I could compete against people that have been practising it for years. The only reason I signed up was because my friend signed up. The bus ride there gave me just enough time to think about how stressed I was. Luckily, my friends were supportive and gave me the confidence to play the first game. I lost. I finally decided that I didn’t care and that it was about having fun! And I did. We ended up coming second and I think we all became as closer as friends as well. The other schools were respectful, and all in all, we had a great time - even though it isn’t something I would usually do. If you’re thinking about participating in Interschool sport – you should!
YEAR 7 SOFTBALL & BASEBALL
The softball and baseball teams were smaller events, with one match deciding the winner of the Monash Division softball and baseball competitions. We were successful in both matches and will now advance to the Regional stage. Well done to both teams.
