Assistant Principal's Report

End of Term 1: Report

Congratulations

Congratulations to Charlie Gow (Year 8) who will be representing Victoria in the U/15 Australian Hockey Championships in Newcastle during the term 1 holidays. We wish Charlie the best of luck and look forward to hearing about his campaign when he returns.

Lunchtime Concert Series

We had our first lunchtime concert last week and it was wonderful. Our students with a passion for music performed on stage to their peers in the first of a series of lunchtime performances planned in the coming terms. It was a fantastic feeling listening to homegrown music.

Term 2 Winter Uniform

A reminder to all families, particularly those who are new to our College, that the winter uniform is expected to be worn by students from the first day of Term 2. This includes ties for all students and black tailored pants or the maroon tartan skirt. Black stockings, not tights, are permitted to be worn under the skirt for additional warmth. Please refer to your child’s planner for any clarification of uniform items. A reminder that hairstyles should not be extreme when returning to school from the break. This includes but is not limited to: rat-tails, mullet’s, mohawks, shaved sides. Hair must be of a naturally-occurring colour and long hair must be tied back.

All students are required to wear the community approved, correct school uniform and take pride in it. If the circumstances are such that a student cannot wear the uniform on a particular day, a note from parents/guardian giving the reasons must be supplied. If a note is not provided, the school will presume that the student is deliberately resisting the uniform policy without parental permission. In these circumstances and in some cases even though a note has been supplied, the school reserves the right to provide the student with a uniform for the day from the school's emergency uniform pool. If a student is out of uniform without a reasonable explanation, they can expect a consequence, e.g. detention.

Uniform Pass: In exceptional circumstances where a student is unable to wear the

approved uniform, a uniform exemption pass may be issued for a negotiated period of time by their Year Level Leader.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences and Progress Reports

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences will take place during Term 2 on Thursday May 5 from 12:00-7:00pm via Microsoft Teams. This is an opportunity for parents and their child to meet with teachers and discuss achievement, progress, and how to develop further growth in learning. Please note that classes will not be scheduled on this day- instead, students are expected to attend with the online conference with their parent/carer and use the rest of the day to consolidate learning.

Appointments with teachers must be made online via Compass. Instructions on how to do this will be communicated to families early next term when the window for booking appointments opens. For the smooth running of the evening, and in respect to all families, we encourage parents to keep to their appointment time. Families unable to make an appointment via Compass should contact the College or assistance.

Should a staff member be unavailable, please make contact with them via Compass email or over the phone.

Progress Reports will be available via Compass from Friday 8 April. Please take the time to read through these with your child and celebrate their successes as well as discuss with them areas on where any improvements in their approach to learning can be made.

Student accident insurance/ambulance cover arrangements and private property at school.

Parents/guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Insurance can be purchased through a commercial insurer.

The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property brought to school and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

End of Term 1

It has been a positive start to the school year and the first full term in 2 years. Students are looking forward to the break.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful break. We look forward to our return on Tuesday 26 April.
