Year 12 VCAL students

All Year 12 VCAL students are asked to make an appointment time with Graeme Crosbie (College Careers Advisor) for Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd or Wednesday 24th October (their final days at school) so he can assist with their plans for employment or further training. They have been asked to message him, if this relates to your child can you please check they have done so.

Getting Year 12 Subject Results and ATAR

Your VCE study scores, ATAR and VTAC Scaled Study Scores will be available to you via the Results and ATAR website and the Results and ATAR app. All current VCE students receive a statement of VCE study scores from the VCAA. However, only students who have applied for courses through VTAC this year and have paid their VTAC processing fees will be sent an ATAR statement in the mail, naturally mail services are not as timely as getting results online so you shouldn't rely on these. Further details about accessing results, ATAR and change of preference will be provided in the next couple of Newslink editions.

How to access your results online

You will need to do this in order to have sufficient time to complete Change of Preference should it be required. The VCE results and ATAR Service will be available from 7am, 14th December. To view your results online, log on to www.resultsandatar.vic.edu.au using the instructions provided there.

Note: The Results and ATAR service log in details are different from your VTAC ID and PIN.

How to receive your ATAR using the VTAC app

Make sure you have the latest version of the app, which adds a "Login to your VTAC account" option on the main menu. Once you have logged in to your VTAC account from the app, you can use the "My ATAR" menu option to view your ATAR and contributing scaled study scores.

Course Selection For Year 9’s

Congratulations to all of the Year 9 families who came and participated in our course selection day last Friday. It was great to sit down and explain the course options available to students and how their careful subject choices now can open up more opportunities in the future. It was particularly pleasing to hear how re-assuring this was for parents.

VET Selection For Year 10’s

Many of our Year 10 students have chosen to complete a VET with the Technical Education Centre (GOTAFE) in 2019. There are a number of students whose enrolment can’t be confirmed at present. Check to see if you are affected

VET Health – students have their interviews to be selected into the course next Wednesday (24th October). Those affected should have received their letters to confirm the time of their interview
VET Electrotechnology – students have their aptitude tests t next Wednesday (24th October). Those affected should have received their letters to confirm the time of their interview.

Others – there are a number of students who have not returned their enrolment paperwork (or it is incomplete – e.g. they have omitted their USI number) and run the risk of losing their place. Jon Lee (GOTAFE) and Graeme Crosbie (Wanganui) have been busy messaging parents and informing affected students. The onus is on parents and the students returning the required paperwork otherwise they run the risk of losing their place.

Passionate about IT? Have you considered studying virtual reality?

The following is taken from Deakin University: “Virtual Reality (VR) is an immersive digital environment that replicates life-like physical environments or portrays a fictional world to make the user feel like they’re immersed in that environment in real life.

Virtual and Augmented Reality (AR) is already being integrated into the healthcare, tourism, advertising, entertainment, automotive, gaming and education industries. Whether it be developing virtual prototypes, providing virtual training scenarios for health care providers or developing new games for the entertainment industry, Virtual and Augmented Reality are likely to continue transforming the way we live over the next decade.

Deakin Universty, in partnership with California-based Virtual Reality company EON Reality, offer students the opportunity to study a major sequence in Virtual and Augmented Reality as part of the Bachelor of Information Technology. Students will also have the opportunity to undertake an elective industry placement with EON Reality and work directly with VR and AR professionals on industry projects. Social Work

Rather than seeking to punish criminals, Dr Sophie Goldingay believes play could be key to rehabilitating them. Working in Deakin’s School of Health and Social Development, Dr Goldingay helped develop an innovative ‘play therapy’ program to reshape mindsets.
