Year 7

Year 7 Excursion – Moonlit Sanctuary

Our year 7 Science classes visited the Moonlit Sanctuary in Pearcedale on April 27th, 28th and 30th as an introduction to our classification and ecosystems unit. Students enjoyed a wallaby walk where they got up close and were able to feed a variety of wallabies, kangaroos and pademelons.

The experienced staff at the Moonlit Sanctuary took us for a guided tour highlighting the different orders of mammals (placental, monotremes and marsupials) as well as exploring class Aves (the birds).

Students also experienced a lesson on food chains in the Sanctuary classroom, and discussed scientific naming of animals including genus and species as they looked at the stumpy tail lizard (Tiliqua rugosa), coastal carpet python (Morelia spilota) and green tree frog (Litoria caerulea).
