Kingfisher Fair

The Kingfisher Fair organisation and planning is well underway. Under the direction of P&F leaders Mr Jim Darmody, Mr Jason Pages, Mrs Stacey Murnane as well as Year and House coordinators the momentum is building. On Sunday a meeting took place to discuss the activities for the upcoming Fair.

Our Kingfisher Fair is a whole school community event with the purpose of bringing together the GSG community on one day. Like many similar events, the success is in the planning. Could I encourage all parents to get involved in this year’s Fair, more information is available in this edition of the Anchor.

Social Media

A survey conducted by headspace of 3,107 young people found 51% of young people have thought about logging off social media, but FOMO keeps them online. This is despite almost half of respondents agreeing the content they see is more negative than positive. For teachers this is not surprising, we continue to encourage students to have the courage to walk away from unproductive social media.

The sense of missing out or needing to know can be addictive for young people. As we continue to educate our students on the issues of social media, the conversations on the pitfalls should be central in guiding the decisions that young people make on a daily basis.
