Student Leadership

Year Twelve Leaders

Despite being the start of Semester Two, our Year Twelve students are nearing the end of their schooling journey; most students complete their formal classes at the end of this term. With this in mind, we turn our attention to our Year Eleven students as our school leaders and begin the process of forming our Student Leadership Team for 2024.

Our current Year Twelve leaders have been a pleasure to work with and they have grown both as a group and individually.  Much of this is because they each have quite different skills and they now have a beautiful appreciation of each other’s strengths.

I urge our current Year Eleven students to think about all that they may have to offer to the next team of leaders.  Perhaps they have creative ideas or are very organised.  Maybe they are good at getting things done or communicate effectively with other people.  Being able to contribute in some way is all we are looking for.  I look forward to this year’s applications and developing the next team of Year Twelve leaders.

Student Council

The other leadership opportunity we have to offer students is our Student Council.  This group is made up of four students from each year level, one from each House.  We have a new Council each semester and they support school events, and provide student voice on policies, decisions and future plans and ideas.

I am delighted to announce this semester’s Student Council.  We have a vibrant group of students eager to support the school and provide students with a voice.

Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) and NAPLAN

There has been some confusion around pre-qualifying for Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) for our Year Nine students and families following the release of NAPLAN results.  A new brochure published by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority addresses some of this confusion.  Please see the brochure at NAPLAN-OLNA-brochure-full-cover.PDF (scsa.wa.edu.au).

Crazy Hair Day and World’s Greatest Shave – message from Eliza Sprigg

Last term, on 15 May, a group of 12 Year Twelve students came together to either cut or shave their hair for the World’s Greatest Shave, raising over $12,000 for the Leukemia Foundation.  It was a huge effort, with weeks of mental preparation, posting, fundraising, and advertising to reach our goal, which was exceeded by thousands of dollars. It was an extremely memorable day, and something we are all really proud of.

To go even further with our fundraising efforts, on Friday in Week Two the whole school participated in 'Crazy Hair Day'. Many of us took advantage of newly grown-out hair to participate in creative hairstyles, and, thanks to everyone’s gold coin donations – and amazing crazy hair – there was even more money raised towards cancer research and services. It was great to see everyone have fun with their hair, especially for something like the Leukemia Foundation. It’s an amazing cause, and all the money raised will go toward helping individuals and families who are struggling with cancer.
