da Vinci Decathlon

Our four teams of da Vinci Decathletes have been working together during lunchtime training session to build their team dynamics and familiarity with the types of tasks they will be required to complete on the day of the competition. This year the competition will be run as an online, virtual event. The Year 7 & 8 teams will be competing on Wednesday 21 April, while the Year 9 & 10 teams will have their competition on Friday 23 April.

Chess

The fourth round of our Interhouse Chess Competition was held this week. As we have so many students in this competition, it has been divided into 3 groups for the round robin games. The “Bishops” group is currently being led by Jack Julian, the “Rooks” group by Jaiden Cherian and the “Knights” group by Charlie Dore and Hansa Rathnayake but the competition is quite tight. There is a wonderful atmosphere of respectful competitiveness in the library while these games are being played.

Our Chess Team played the first round of the Country Secondary Schools Chess competition, against Hennessy Catholic College (HCC), this week. The team was composed of Jack Julian, Teddy Leah, Charlie Dore with the leading player being Hudson Crofts. It was played online, saving us hours of car travel to and from Young! HCC played strong games, with all of their players being Year 12 students, and won all four games. It was a valuable experience for our players being exposed to different chess strategies and experiencing the highs and lows of the consequences of their moves.
