Private Music Lessons - Music Academy

As the first term approaches its end, we have started processing our new Music Academy enrolments. With many new enrolments for music lessons, particularly from our Junior School, our instrumental teachers’ timetables are filling up. If you would like your child or children to take private music tuition next term, please enrol them as soon as possible via clicking on the button below.

Year 7 Beginner Instrumental Program

Throughout Term 1, our 5 mainstream Year 7 music classes have learnt about woodwind, brass and string instruments. Students have learnt how the instruments sound, what they are made of, how they produce sound, how to hold them and how to make them sound. Students experienced live demonstrations from instrumental staff members Jacquelyn Willcockson (flute, clarinet, saxophone), Timothy Chandler (trumpet, trombone, euphonium) and Damien Johnson (cello, violin). Students loved the opportunity to try instruments and interacted with each other and staff most respectfully and admirably throughout try-outs. Now Year 7 students and their families can choose to opt-in to the Year 7 Beginners Instrumental Program. The Beginners Instrumental Program offers students the opportunity to learn a woodwind, brass or string instrument with a specialist tutor during their music class. Students achieve the curriculum outcomes of the Stage 4 Music course while playing in an ensemble. Specialist staff guide students through the beginning stages of learning these interesting and versatile instruments. Instruments on offer are violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and euphonium. The program costs $180 per term. Students must supply an instrument or hire one from the College. If your Year 7 student is enthusiastic, and you appreciate the benefits of music as a foundational subject and driver of wellbeing, enrol your Year 7 student here:

Junior School Music

Practical music programs are set to launch in the Junior School next Term. Our Year 3 and Year 4 Beginner String Programs start, as do our Year 5 and Year 6 Beginner Band Programs. Information and enrolment details for the Year 4 and Year 6 streams appear in Mrs Kylie Chacon’s Junior School article this week.

Six of our Junior School students have joined our Senior School ensembles. We welcome Noah Rudd, Jude Petts, Willow Cornius-Randall, Katelyn Miller, Karma Mira and Resandhu Hathurusinghe to the College Band and Hala Ghazy to String Sinfonia. Students with prior experience in an instrument, who take private tuition in that instrument, are welcome to join either our College Band or Orchestra (String Sinfonia). Enrol here:

Performances

Since week 6, we have had many many students involved in performances around the College. Our Year 7 and 8 Encore students gave a series of concerts for our Junior School students and students have performed for both Junior and Senior School Assemblies. A particular shout-out to our Junior School Leadership Assembly Performers: Miles Martin, Joshua Sarantakos, Roni Kadmon-Jones, Charlotte Wickson, and Bianca Ulett.

TRAC Idol

From next week, many students will share their talents with the College in our annual talent show, TRAC Idol. Stage Band are booked for a surprise Year 12 item, the Senior Strings are booked for a hybrid Tyler the Creator cover and to accompany our first ever Junior School Performance. The show will also feature singers, a flautist, a saxophonist, and stand-up comedian and Mrs Lough’s dance troupe.
