Spanish

Spanish Vocab #1
With Spanish as our Language here at CHS, we think it would be great for everyone in our community to be learning some Spanish. It is also a great way to get your student to share their Spanish learning with you!
For our first lesson, we will start with the greetings:
¡Hola! (ola) -
Hello
¡Buenos días! (bwenosˈdias) -
Good Morning
We use Buenos días until we have lunch, in Spain they have lunch around 2pm so it can be used up until then.
¡Buenas tardes! (bwenasˈtardes) -
Good afternoon
We use this after lunch and until the sun goes down
¡Buenas noches! (bwenasˈnoches)-
Good evening
We use this once it gets dark.
While we use all of these expressions you can just use 'Buenas' which is a shorter greeting.
Language Perfect World Championships 2018
What a huge effort from our students this year. CHS came first in Victoria for Spanish and we were third in Australia. To celebrate our achievements and our top 50 students we celebrated by counting down the end of the competition together and then having a pizza party once the competition finished. Thank you to all the students who participated in the championships and especially those students who came into the Spanish room whilst the competition was running to participate and to improve their language skills. It was these students huge efforts that enabled us to be so successful in this global competition.
For the third year running Dylan was our whole school champion and also 1st in the world for Malay! He has won a pair of Sony bluetooth headphones for all of his hard work and dedication to language learning.
Also a huge congratulations to our year level champions, we will presenting these students with their prizes and certificates soon.

Next week yr 9 & 10 Spanish students will be visiting Neruda's cafe in Brunswick. During their visit they will taste traditional Latin foods such as arepas from Colombia and empanadas from Chile. They will use their Spanish to order their food and to talk about their opinions of these traditional foods. Photos and reflections to come in the next newsletter!
