Winter Sports

Our first round of home fixtures occurred last week against St Hilda’s, with some great results for many of our teams across three of our sports; unfortunately, junior hockey was cancelled due to the rain. Some notable achievements were that both our senior netball teams, who bounced back from a tough first round, won by more than 10 goals. Again, our volleyball teams showed their class with both the Opens and Yr 10s winning all 3 sets comfortably.

Our Senior C tennis team continues their wait to compete due to a combination of rain and byes delaying their start to the season. However, our junior hockey team will play their first game of the season this weekend out at St Lucia. We wish them well and hope their dedication and effort in training pays off with a competitive start to the season.

A reminder that the College will provide transport this week due to most games being played in Ipswich. The full weekly fixture schedule along with transport information can be found on the College app, in Daily Notices and on the Croc board.

QGSSSA Athletics

Last week we stated that a full wrap of the College interhouse athletics carnival would be included this week. We will hold this over until next week as our assembly to announce all winners will not occur before releasing this edition. However, there are some fantastic results to report, and we look forward to publishing these next week and celebrating them at assembly this Friday morning.

The first of the 6 session Athletics meet series will occur next Friday 6 August. A bus list is located on the Croc Board, and students are asked to ensure they sign-up by 1:30 pm on Wednesday. We need girls to do this as it informs us of the size and number of buses we require. Could we please ask that parents and caregivers prompt your daughters/wards to sign-up and check that they have done so by Wednesday. Buses will depart the College at 3:20 pm and return at approximately 8:15 pm. All squad members are encouraged to attend all four meets that Clayfield attends. This enables the coaches to monitor progress and performances to design training programs effectively. A complete training squad list is on the College app and Croc Board.

Next week, all athletes will receive a training passport to log their training and any improvements in times/distances. The passport will indicate which events they have been selected for and, where required, space to add another event if they are not already doing three. Further details will be released next week and at Monday’s compulsory session. Any students selected in the squad who cannot attend at least 2 sessions each week should email Ms. Barnes and Mrs. Steer to advise.

Volleyball Academy

The Clayfield Volleyball Academy continues every Monday from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the PE Centre. Please see Ms. Barnes if you wanting to participate. Any girls who choose to leave the program MUST send an email to confirm this or payments will still be added to your College fees.

Metropolitan North Trials

The list below shows the sports trials due to be held in Term 3. Please note that these dates are for the Met North trial. Independent North trials will be in the weeks leading up to the trial or have occurred last term for those events in the first few weeks. Please click on the links below to find out more or see Ms. Barnes if you are interested in attending. Note that these trials are for experienced players, not those wishing to try a sport.

Elite Sporting Program - Sport Specialist Series

After a great first series of presentations last term, our presenters will be running a follow-up session this term. These presentations will commence next week on Wednesday 4 August and then occur each week, either on Monday or Wednesday mornings from 8:00 am – 9:00 am. Further details will be provided via the College app once all presenters have locked in their dates. We also welcome Natasha Anderson, one of our primary parents, who will deliver several sessions on “Girls with Grit”, which we are looking forward to. Our other presenters are:

Student Achievements

Abby Harris

At the recent Brisbane Premier League (BPL) Cricket draft selection event held at Queensland Cricket's Allan Border Field, Abby was selected in the U19 Female draft and will be playing for the Western Power which is one of eight T20 cricket franchises.

The inaugural 2021 competition will be played in the September school holidays and with cricketing greats, Ian Healy, Darren Lehmann, Chris Lynn, Usman Khawaja, Mark Nicholas and Kirby Short as team owners, the BPL is certain to be a great success.

Games will be live-streamed to national and international audiences. We wish Abby every success at this upcoming event and no doubt a number of keen supporters will follow her progress.

Lindsay Webb

Lindsay was selected in the Queensland gymnastics team - level 7 to compete at the recent border challenge during the last school holidays. Her level 7 team placed 2nd overall and Lindsay placed 5th overall individually with a 1st on bars and a 4th on beam.

Lindsay then competed in the State Clubs level 7 team for Delta Gymnastics a few days later and her team came 1st overall. Well done Lindsay, some outstanding individual and team performances.

Emma Sanders

During the recent school holidays, Emma Sanders and her horse ‘Dino’ travelled up to Maryborough to compete at the Interschool State Equestrian Championships. Following on from her success at the championships she has now been selected on the Queensland Team to compete at the National Interschool Championships in Victoria in September.

Well done Emma, we hope you and Dino continue your good form for this next exciting challenge.
