From the Principal

Dr. Andrew Cousins

During the week, you may have noticed a great deal of activity around Maintenance House. Maintenance House, which is located at the Clayfield College Swimming Pool entrance on Bayview Terrace, has been progressively demolished during the week. It is anticipated that this should be finalised by early next week. A very exciting step as we continue to move forward with the campus refresh.

Thank you to the parents who recently completed the Parent Strategic Plan Survey. In addition to this survey, information to support the College's strategic direction has also been collected using a Staff Strategic Plan Survey and through student lead forums. The College Captains recently conducted these student forums to canvas student opinion and ideas about their vision for Clayfield. In the coming weeks, a survey will also be circulated to the Clayfield College Old Collegian's Association members for their input.

Within the parent survey, there were questions about the College's core values and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile. The following provides a brief snapshot of questions and parent responses to these questions.

Organisational values

  • Parents were asked to select three organisational values which best describe the core values of Clayfield College.
  • A total of 17 values were listed. The values listed included: integrity; boldness/courage; honesty; trust; accountability; loyalty; passion; resilience; humility; continuous learning; respect; constant improvement; leadership; diversity; innovation; quality and teamwork.
  • Four values emerged as the key principles driving organisational culture - respect, continuous learning, integrity, and passion.
  • 'Continuous learning' and 'respect' were equally identified as the strongest themes by parents.

IB Learner Profile attributes

  • Parents were asked to select three IB Learner Profile attributes that they felt were most evident as part of the Clayfield College experience.
  • There are ten IB Learner Profile attributes, they are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-taker, balanced and reflective.
  • 'Caring' was identified as the most evident attribute of all - with 63 percent of respondents selecting it as one of their three preferred options.
  • 'Inquirers' followed very closely behind (60%) with 'communicators' the third most prominent attribute.

I look forward to sharing more of the survey feedback over the coming weeks. This information provides such a critical aspect of informing the development of the College's strategic direction.
